James "Bear" Graham - Gaga

James “Bear” Graham

James Graham is a teacher, choreographer, and performer based in San Francisco. He has taught Gaga extensively on the West Coast, in the Midwest, as well as in Canada, South Korea, Thailand, Germany, France, Sweden, and Israel. He is currently on faculty at UC Berkeley and at Dominican University/ LINES Ballet. In 2017 he received an Isadora Duncan (IZZIE) award for Outstanding Achievement in Performance for an Ensemble (for Graham’s duet Homeroom). He is a 2018 mentee with Margaret Jenkins’ CHIME program. Graham received an M.F.A. from The Ohio State University in 2010, and a B.A. from UC Berkeley in 2005.

His company, James Graham Dance Theatre, has recently performed at ODC Theatre, the Daegu International Dance Festival in South Korea, The Nourse Theatre, Davies Symphony Hall (commissioned by the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus), Micadanse in Paris, The University of Calgary, Dominican University of California, The Ohio State University, National Queer Arts Festival, Kunst-Stoff Arts, Too Much! Festival, Movement Research at Judson Church, Joe Goode Annex, CounterPulse, and in the Golden Gate Park National A.I.D.S. Memorial Grove. Graham currently dances for Smith/Wymore Disappearing Acts and the Joe Goode Performance Group.
